Advancements in Landscape Architecture
Landscape architecture consists of studying the environmental aspects of the surrounding area. It is looking at the existing physical location of things while in the process of landscaping. Landscape architecture depends on the place in which you are producing. It can be urban design, site planning, town planning, environmental restoration, parks and recreation planning, visual resource management, and private estate and residence landscaping.
When you think about the bare bones in which mankind first started existing, and where we are now, it is impressive. The relationship between man and landscaping is a lot closer than realized. How man interacts with landscape tells a bit how it will be developed in the future. Since landscape translates into the earth’s surface itself, earths geography and landscape walk hand in hand. Water, being a key factor in the survival of man, has been found in existence to landscape architecture. This is called watershed, a landscape surface that surrounds and drains into a body of water.
This accounts for rainwater and for melted snow if any. Watersheds are just one type of ecosystem that helps make the world go round. There are different types of these watershed, known as main river watersheds, or micro watersheds. A watershed has three main functions. First, it stores water caught from the atmosphere. Second, the watershed stores water once it cleanses the water from all the soil. The water then moves through the vegetation and soil. After that, it is then released slowly back in lakes, the ocean, who whatever large body of water it came from. This is known as run off.
After learning one way in which water can be restored by humankind, another way is urban waterfront regeneration. After the industrial era, learning how to manage in city waterfronts became important. Learning how to manage the beauty the urban dwellers enjoyed, while still uses it effectively had to be learned. There needs to be a balance between productive waterfront landscape and a maintenance of the beauty of this location for the city. Urban waterfronts have for a long time, been a source of trade and transportation.
Through deterioration of waterfronts, there has been rediscovery. After an initial relationship of bodies of water in relation to the city, newly redesigned waterfront regeneration’s were of utmost importance in order to reestablish the natural flow. Conserving the historical part of these waterfronts, along with integrating upgraded parts, were both weighed in the decision to redo these waterfronts.
